Welcome to the Bailout Brigade

The Bailout Brigade is a permanent list of Congressional votes for and against the $700 Billion Bailout Bill. We'll never forget those who willfully rejected the majority voices of America, and hope that our readers will remember them in the coming elections.

Need to quickly know how your Senator or Representative voted on any iteration of the Bailout Bill? The full roll calls are below:

* Villains (Voted for the Bailout)
* Heroes (Voted against the Bailout)

Publius — Fri, 10/03/2008 - 18:22

The House, in a flip-flop of extraordinary proportions, has passed the Bailout Bill.

The Villains and Heroes pages have been updated with the final roll call in the House of Representatives.

A significant portion of Republicans flip-flopped, rejecting the will of their constituents completely. BailoutBrigade.com is preparing a special list of the flip-floppers who helped push this traitorous legislation through.

Biden on the Bailout

Publius — Fri, 10/03/2008 - 02:16

Tonight's Vice Presidential Debate's touched enough on the Bailout that it deserved some mention here.

Biden was surprisingly direct, launching into a dissection of the last eight year's policies, clearly laying the blame on the Bush administration. He also explained Obama's four key areas of focus for the bill:
* Oversight
* Focus on Home Owners, Main St.
* Taxpayers as Investors
* Make sure CEO's don't benefit

Palin's responses, here, and elsewhere were the equivalent of a trainwreck of buzzwords and memorized phrases, peppered with soccer-mom and "everyman" references.

Round #2 - Senate rejects the people

Publius — Thu, 10/02/2008 - 13:01

After a lengthy debate, the Senate went on to completely reject the will of the American people on October 1st, 2008.

It passed 74 to 25, with the full list available here.

Hope for Change?
Neither candidate for the Presidential election, Barack Obama nor John McCain, voted against the bill. Certainly a reminder that the rhetoric of campaign trail speeches doesn't necessarily reflect real change in practice.

Summary:
Villains: 74 (Democrats: 39, Republicans: 34, Independents: 1)
Heroes: 25 (Demoncrats: 9, Republicans: 15, Independents: 1)

Round #1 - Triumphs and Traitors

Publius — Wed, 10/01/2008 - 13:52

On September 29th, 2008, a majority of proud, decent, honest men and women voted against the so-called Bailout of the financial institutions caught up in the subprime mortgage crisis.

It's not over yet.
$700 billion was the first number thrown at the American taxpayer, it could go up, and another attempt at the bill may yet pass. Like some mythical hydra of lore, the Bailout Bill has raised its ugly head again in the Senate.

However. Today, we celebrate! We remember those who allied themselves with their constituents, upholding their promises to represent their people - not rob them blind.

In any tale, of course, where there is a Hero, there must be a Villain. In the case of this bill, you can find them here: The final vote results for Roll Call 674, also known as the Bailout Bill

Summary:
* Villains: 205 (Democrats: 140, Republicans: 65)
* Heroes: 228 (Democrats: 95, Republicans: 133)
* Fence-sitters: 1
